100 Thing Challenge - Thing 03: My trusty DSLR
Cutting my personal possessions down to 100 items with the help of Blipfoto would be difficult without my digital camera, so the D40 is here to stay. I have owned it for over three years now and originally paid £250 for it which was a bargain back then. It's 'only' 6 mega-pixels, but I'm happy with that as I don't like my hard-drive filling up too quickly. The only upgrades I have brought are a 35mm fixed lens allowing me to use a wide aperture of f1.8 for amazing depth of field and a simple SB400 flash. The fixed lens is great as a way of simplifying photography and to move around on my feet more, rather than 'zooming' all the time to compose shots. I can also photograph as my eye sees it at 35mm which is the equivalent of traditional film 50mm.
Clever marketing and advertising space fuelled magazine reviews lure us to spend thousands of £s on expensive camera kit and upgrades with features we end up never using before the next bigger, better newer model appears again to tempt us again.
My camera, lens, flash and bag will count as 1 item in my 100 Thing Challenge.
