A curious turret

You will see that on the corner of the building at the top of the Pier brae, Armadale House, there is a curious Turret. I cannot work out what the purpose of this is. It has no windows and does not appear to fulfill any particular function. Maybe its sole purpose is to give the likes of me something to wonder about. Maybe it was added to the building to lend interest to the architecture.
