Having a chat - Caspian terns
Two Caspian terns on a small sand bar at high tide in the Avon/Heathcote estuary. lovely morning and the birds waiting for the tide to recede so they can feed. they rest on these small islands for safety - mainly to avoid predators (and peoples' uncontrolled dogs!!)
I find it hard to understand why people think it is OK to let their dogs chase birds and in fact actually sometimes encourage them!
As well as frightening the birds it can endanger them by using precious energy, especially in the case of migrating birds. I realise people often just don't understand the consequences, and most are fine if you explain the problems but some are not!
(Will now get off hobby horse!! - that's my rant for the day)
