Okay blippers the answer to yesterdays' question was calcium chloride.
One more flame test for today - quite hard to pick up the green flame but a bit of Lightroom accentuated it.
Flame tests can be done with solids but a bit of the substance to be tested along with a bit of alcohol produces a more dramatic effect.
Burning vapour on the bench and hanging off the rubber gas tubing seems to keep pupils' attention pretty well.
Where to go from here? If anyone has advice on capturing shorter, more explosive reactions I'd be grateful. I tried this morning with an experiment that produces a quick flash but on a longer exposure. Consequently, all I got was white..!
