We Three Kings

In honor of Epiphany (ih-pif-uh-nee) today, I photographed the portion of the Nativity scene that was relavent.

Epiphany is celebrated on January 6th as it is the last (12th day) of Christmas. The day the three kings (Kaspar, Melchior and Balthasar) reached the Christ child's cradle in Bethlehem. It is celebrated as a festival commemorating the manifestation of Christ to the gentiles in the persons of the Magi.

As with any celebration, the Kings brought gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh...not (quoted from a child in their Church's Christmas Pageant) 'gold, common sense and fur'! Humor often serves as a wonderful memory aid, and the innocence of a child misquoting such a familiar phrase only adds to the joy of life.
