Looks Good To Me

Mirror, Mirror in the Car

It almost wasn't.

C and I went to the IKEA store across the border to buy a mirror for the new bathroom. Things cost more there than in the Seattle store, but it's closer and easier to get to from Bellingham.

Driving conditions were miserable -- low clouds and heavy rain. It was so dark I had my headlights on just before noon. At one point we were overtaken by a yellow taxi, and the view through the windshield looked like one of those Photoshop jobs where the picture has been converted to black and white, except for one brightly colored object.

We had lunch at IKEA and enjoyed buying a few things besides the mirror. I had an oh-sh**t moment when it was time to load up the car. I knew beforehand what the dimensions of the mirror were, and it didn't sound very big to me -- I just assumed it would fit in the trunk. It probably would have if we could have got it through the opening. The only option was to put it between the front and rear seats. It took a lot of maneuvering to get it in, because the rear doors don't open to 90 degrees, and when I closed the doors (slowly) the top corners of the mirror were almost touching the inward-sloping windows. I was so glad our trip hadn't been a waste of time.

Next time we want to go shopping for large items I'll do some measuring first.
