A walk to the Folly
At the end of this tunnel of trees is a folly built to enhance the view from the St Ives estate by Benjamin Ferrand in 1796. I can remember being able to see this as you drove along the road but obviously in the last several decades trees have been planted which have grown up and hidden the folly totally unless you take this walk through the woods.
I chose not to submit a picture of the folly itself as I liked this picture showing the pattern of light through the trees. The Folly is in the far distance at the end of the path.
It was a nice walk which we foreshortened by dropping down to the golf course at Beckfoot and then crossing into St Ives and across the fields back to the village.
Thank you Corinne for accompanying me and Wendy for suggesting it. It was a good way to spend part of my first proper day of retirement.
