I Remember
Back in those days of long ago,
Each day was hard.
The thought with life sustainable,
Seemed always to be marred.
Ways to gain existence,
Was all we knew.
Never did we seek for fun,
And in that way...we grew.
Never did we go to church,
Nor hear the words of God.
A scanty livelihood was made,
From off that untamed sod.
Our knowledge was a meager lot,
No great things did we see.
To die from want and hunger,
Never left us free.
I think of how life comes today,
What experience does allow.
And what life has offered all these years,
The best part is coming now.
