Moss on peat
We bought peat blocks last year to use around flower borders - they are now slowly turning from brown to green . It's lovely to see them turn greener and greener each month.
Autumn and spring (and mild winters as this one) are the busiest periods for mosses - they reproduce and as a result lots of reddish brown "sporophytes" or "spore plants" sprout from the sexual generation. At the top of the spore plants you can see little swellings that ultimately turn into "spore capsules". When they are ripe they will open and spread the spores.
