Starling
Chunky and noisy,
but with stars in their black feathers,
they spring from the telephone wire
and instantly
they are acrobats
in the freezing wind (Starlings in Winter, Mary Oliver, 2007)
In the garden today were: Blue Tits, Starlings and a Song Thrush, one wee grandson, one granny and a cat which was doing it's best to hide, but we were making a good job of shooing her away so she wouldn't eat the birds! She's too fat and old now to jump up high or very quickly - I know how she feels..lol
