Kereru

New Zealand wood pigeon. They are wonderfully plump birds and tend to bend branches. They make a great nosie flying - I think it's quite an effort to keep their weight in the air. They are not particularly common where I live, but we saw a number of them driving up the West Coast today. This chap was sitting in a tree right beside the track to Lake Matheson this afternoon and was perfectly happy to pose for me.

We are in Hokitika staying with my parents, the last stage of our holiday. Home tomorrow! it's been a great holiday but home beckons and the closer it gets the keener I am to be there.
