Footless
Today I was drawn to the Botanical Gardens and had an odd urge to shoot some of the seagulls in the park, a very odd thing for me to want to do. People who know me will be wondering if Ive had a bump on the head or something, as I was, but sometimes you just have to follow your heart.
I had this urge to photograph this particular little fella he was away from the rest of the gulls and seemed to have a bit of a limp. He was actually flying up to us and feeding out of our hands but wouldnt land among the other birds to get some bread. I captured many images of him but it wasnt till I got home that the whole significance of the shot and the bird struck me.
I was bought up being told by my Dad, a Dundonian, that we are visited by our family that have passed in the form of birds and many many times since he died I have had cause to remember this and do always feel that when I see a solo bird it could be him looking after me. It wasnt till I got home I noticed the reason for this birds limp, he has no feet at all. Woooooooo thats a bit scary because my Mum passed away in the last week of November this year and she was a double amputee.
Mum always struggled with Hogmanay as it was the day of her fathers funeral and I now feel that she has popped back to see me to let me know everything is ok and she is now fine and at peace.
Heres to you Mum, and in fact heres to all Mothers, without them where would we be..............
