Hen blackbird
A dreary day again, grey skies with intermittent fine drizzle. I knew it must be pretty bad when even the dogs didn't ask to go out. I've spent the day sorting papers, and cooking in preparation for friends visiting tomorrow. As a result, today's blip is yet another garden bird.
As the snow continues to melt, the lawn has been full of birds gathering up freshly exposed tasty morsels. In particular, there have been many wood pigeons and blackbirds.
I find that blackbirds are quite hard to photograph, particularly on grey days, as all detail is easily lost. This hen blackbird was a bit closer than the rest, and I managed to catch her in the brief moment when she wasn't obscured by vegetation. The female lacks the black plumage of the male and is more sooty brown with diffuse mottling on the breast.
I think I might have to raid the bilpbank again soon, as the forecast is for grey and gloomy weather for the forseeable future. Oh joy!
