Lake Wanaka

Well we arrived in Wanaka this afternoon. Left from the Catlins in near torrential rain and drove through some really heavy rain to get here. Since we arrived all we've seen is sunshine so I guess we've come to the right place! Although I'm hearing some bad flood stories from home, so I'm a little worried about friends in Murchison and Nelson.

The purple flowers in the foreground in this photo are Viper's Bugloss (of the echium family), it's a hairy prickly plant that thrives in dry, locations and has become a problem weed on roadsides in many places in New Zealand - however it does produce great honey!
