Rain all day, good drenching rain, just what we need after a week of searing nor'westers. We are lucky. Other places have had far too much rain. Major roads have been closed, campers have lost their tents and belongings, but escaped themselves. At the top of the South Island one river rose 11 metres above its normal level. A lot of cattle were lost. In the North Island the southerly had gusts of up to 167kph.
