There's no point living in York...
...if you don't blip the walls now and again.
This is Walmgate Bar, just down the road from where I live. Most of it was built in the 14th Century (though parts of it are up to 200 years older and there's an Elizabethan house built into the bar on the other side from this angle); so around the time that the nave of the Minster was being built.
And around the time of the 100 Years War against the French; and when Chaucer was spinning yarns about pilgrims spinning yarns on the way to Canterbury.
I get to walk underneath it on my way into town, as I was doing today.
