My Lifeline
Hello Blip. I'm a Type 1 Diabetic, This is the stuff I need to not die.
So. I've been a Type 1 Diabetic for about 2 and a half years now, Its still a massive pain in the arse, Literally.(Don't ask) Things are getting better, I've recently been on the smashing DAFNE course which has let me have much, much more freedom with the way I eat, And rather than doing a rough guess with my insulin doses, I can make calculated choices on how much I require, to save me having high blood sugar (by not having enough insulin) and low blood sugar. (by over estimating doses on insulin) This is important, Type 1 Diabetes is a tightrope, I need to balance food intake with insulin doses carefully or I could fall off and end up in hospital with both high and low blood sugars if they are severe enough.
So, enough about me. Lets get onto the implements(Boohahahaha). First off in the top left corner is my glucacon. The big needle in the orange box. I need someone to dose me with that if I start to get freaky on the floor with low blood sugar, Thankfully, I haven't needed it so far.
Secondly there is my Levemir insulin cartridges and pens. This is the insulin that runs in the background all of the time, If I don't have it in my system, I can get very ill very quickly. One Dose lasts 24 hours and the dose is rarely adjusted.
Next, There is the insulin I take every time I eat. I adjust the dose with how many carbohydrates are in the food.
Next is the glucagel. It is jelly glucose and tastes disgusting. It is used for treating hypos, but I usually have something nice to treat them!
FINALLY, My blood glucose testing meter, I jab my finger before meals and bed to see how my blood sugar is at that time. I also use it to test before driving (I'm not insured if I have low blood sugar) and if I feel wobbly, Which is an indicator of low blood glucose.
I hope that wasn't too boring, thank you for reading =)
