Midwinter Lunar Eclipse
For once it wasn't cloudy when there was something spectacular to see in the night sky :-)
Spent an enjoyable - if freezing pre-Dawn watching this eclipse progress from one of our parks. First the moon was full and amazingly bright and then it moved into the Earth's shadow ... and turned an eerie red colour. Here, it is just about to go into full shadow with a bit of sunlight moon still on the right hand edge.
I learned a couple of lessons about taking photos in the dark, main one being you cant see all the buttons in the dark and have to fumble about trying to set things up. Next time I try this I'm taking a small torch :-)
Its not a very sharp image but I like the colour and think it makes a good blip as it was a rather amazing occurrence.
A total lunar eclipse on the Winter solstice.
For us in the Northern hemisphere, the days start getting longer again now :-)
