The Iron duke

Looking very majestic and steely highlighted with snow against the grey morning sky.

The Duke of Wellington monument - Register House, Princes Street Edinburgh with him looking up North Bridge. A bronze statue, errected 1852.

Popular belief is that if the horse is rearing like this with both feet in the air then the statue depicts someone who had died in battle. Wellington didn't die this way and he was actually still alive when it was erected. He approved of it so much that he arranged for another couple to be made for his houses down south.
