Zzzz...ombie

Trying to keep my mind active at work.

What is with the sudden increased obsession with zombies or 'zombie-like' creations recently? There seems to be an influx of zombie-themed games, movies, and books all of a sudden - I mean, zombies are hardly a recent creation and I don't quite know why they're in such high demand.
