Dublin Simon
Back from Dublin and the Imelda May gig, which was very good and my birthday daughter had a ball even though she is more into heavy metal than rockabilly. We parted compant from herself and her boyfriend this morning and they headed off back to Cork. We decided to take a slightly later train and used the time gained in order to get the Christmas present shopping finished.
Shot a few blips, famous Dublin landmarks, architecture etc, but in the end decided to post this one of members of the Dublin Simon Community Volunteers decked out in their festive gear and singing their hearts out in order to collect funds with which to assist the homeless in this freezing weather and over the Christmas period. Judging by the sight of many unfortunate people begging at street corners and other places, such funds are badly needed. It does seem that as the recession bites there are fewer Romanians begging on the streets and many more locals. It's hard to know what to do or even what can be done. The few Euro one might drop into the collection box seems to be a silly response to an insurmountable problem but without it someone might freeze to death.
