Where have all the little birds gone...?
With fresh snowfall overnight we have had to fill up the bird feeders and we've been watching the birds intermittently through the morning. We've spotted blue tits, great tits, coal tits, bramblings, goldfinches, blackbirds, robins, sparrows, long-tailed tits.....but then suddenly a few moments ago the tree went quiet and Tony spotted this sparrowhawk in the topmost branches. I had set my camera up to do a macro on some ice which had dropped off my walking boot so it was mad panic to unfasten it all, switch lenses and dive upstairs to the bedroom. The shot had to be taken through the window so it's not the best but I reckon s/he still looks rather grand. Some of the little birds were not to be put off though, they stayed in the furthest branches keeping a close eye on this unwelcome visitor (for them, not for us!)
