Circle of the Seasons

Delicate Design, Strong Form

These grasses should have been cut down to within a few inches of the ground to get ready for winter. They are so pretty, I couldn't bear to do it.

What always surprises me is how they hold onto their seeds for so long. Everything else has sent its little fairy-like flyers off into the world. But these grasses, so curly and fragile, are still packed with rows of shining fluff.

Nature must want them to scatter their seeds close by, rather than sending them winging off on the wind to parts unknown. This way the stalks will support each other, and the whole patch will be stronger and healthier.

And when the community is strong, the individuals prosper.

This looks wonderful LARGE.
