DD's Cupcake Shoppe

You would think nobody in town has access to sweets the way DD's place has been busy non-stop since she opened fifteen days ago.

DD's is my new addiction, I know that. All natural, third generation baker, and just filled with touches of good will all round from the water left out for passing cats, dogs and birds to the grand welcome you have when you say you will "eat it here".

This is not typical. Not at all.

A huge change from twenty-one years ago when my eldest and I walked into a donut shop here thinking it would be friendly like up north, and finding ourselves grunted at, nary a smile to be found. Back then, this little town was closed in and locals let you know that. But, it has expanded by leaps and bounds and now there is no telling who is local and who is not, which is great.

Diversity is sneaking up quickly on this town, and I could not be happier about it.

I know this is just a cupcake shop but it is representative of a new energy here, I think. Especially since it is in the same little place where once there was a huge painted confederate flag above a shop sign. I used to drive past there and cringe. Now I don't drive past there...I stop in for a cupcake and some smiles.
