Bark

I was walking to the office across the Meadows and the light was good but I couldn't make anything work. Then I noticed this bark. I like the textures and patterns but I'm not sure what kind of tree it is; I'm better at identifying plants by their leaves, but that can be difficult at this time of year! Any thoughts?
