The Southern Slopes of Dartmoor

Left home in heavy fog until we got the other side of Honiton and the sun shone! We were on our way to visit N's elderly uncle and aunt the other side of the moor near Yelverton. Dartmoor is 200,000 acres of open and ancient moorland - a feeling of freedom is what I love when crossing on the winding lanes - great expanses of open ground. Not many ponies, sheep or cattle about today, they had been herded and brought down to the farmsteads and other places so that they could be fed easily in the snow.

This view is taken near Combestone Tor, south of Dartmeet, looking down into the Dart Valley Nature Reserve. Right in the bottom of the valley is the River Dart and on the hills opposite there are hut circles. (This is a backblip!)
