Rock'n'roll needs people who make it happen
I went to John Dee, one of Oslo's best live music venues, to see the Jim Jones Revue. They put on a great show, but outside most of the venue's staff were on strike because they want what every worker should have - minimum wage, overtime for working late hours, proper holiday pay and the right to have a union.
The striking staff did not try to stop the show - because that would have affected musicians who were playing for their living - but they wanted everyone who went to the show to know that they felt they were not being treated fairly by their employers.
It's a common occurrence in the music industry - there are so many people who love rock'n'roll so much that they give up their time for free, or for less than the minimum wage, just to be a part of it. But that doesn't mean that the people who do make money out of music should try to capitalise on that goodwill.
A lot of international bands play at the venues run by this company - John Dee, Rockefeller and Sentrum Scene. So whether or not you live in Norway, if you like live music and you're on facebook go to this page and "like" it.
Here's some photos of the actual show - Jim Jones Revue in the blipfolio, and some on flickr
