First Snow

Every year I try to capture the first snowfall in a photo, which I use as the December image in my annual calendar.

This year we had a few flurries during November and earlier in December, but no accumulation. Not enough to even show in a picture.

It's too late for the 2011 calendar, which has already gone to press, but here is this season's first morning awakening to snow on my beloved hillside.

I love the way it accentuates the mowed rows in the field, like the whorls of a giant fingerprint on the land.

Snow brings out the bones of the landscape.
