Sunrise Over The Green

Only seem to have time to blip either when the sun is rising or setting at the moment. This is a view up the Green at the heart of Cardington Village. The building on the left is Lakes Farm House, the one in the centre is The John Howard Reading Rooms, and the one on the right the former Cardington School.

As a point of interest, John Howard was the noted Prison Reformer who lived in Cardington, and the Reading Room was erected on the occasion of the centenary of his death by Mr. Samuel Whitbread (Brewing Family) of Southill Park.

The very house in which I live was formally the Cardington Workhouse (still feels like it sometimes). It was built in 1757 and was paid for by John Howard, Ive Whitbread and Samuel Whitbread Snr. (Father of Samuel Whitbread the Reforming MP) I believe it cost £57! It is a Grade 2 listed building and still belongs to the Whitbread family.
