The birds

This was the scene on the Water of Leith this morning - still the same small ice-free patch that DaveH blipped yesterday, but by now everyone was even hungrier and a couple of greylag geese had joined the throng. (Rather unclear, but they're on the ice at the back, to the right of the swan). The swan family were most irritable and kept chasing ducks, but without making any impression. I was going to try some more shots but the bus hove into view and I had to return to the stop - one cannot dash anywhere at the moment, due to ice sheets alternating with piles of deep filthy slippery slush. So this is it.

If only I had gone outside at lunchtime instead of working through it, I might have seen anth's beautiful waxwings who were evidently all over the trees just opposite the office. I might even have blipped them - darnation!
