Odd Fellows Rest
In New Orleans they have the Garden District and the Warehouse District. I live in MidCity-- not be confused with Central City which is where a good deal of violence happens --and I like to consider it the Cemetery District. Since we're below sea level we don't bury people in the ground. Instead we have above ground tombs, and mausoleums. Most of the mausoleums we have are owned privately by certain families, and they're like nice sized little houses of the dead among the rest of the tombs. All of these tombs and mausoleums have lent themselves to turning something morbid into a work of art. They are adorned with sculptures and are made in different architectural styles. They're really beautiful even to the point that people choose our cemeteries as places to hold their weddings frequently.
At any rate, the street that we take to get to our apartment is lined with about 4 or 5(maybe more) different cemeteries. They all have different names, but my favorite is this one, Odd Fellows Rest. I'm always telling Peter that when I die that's where I want to go. So, while sitting at a long stop light I decided to take a picture of it. I really like the way the tree is kind of taking over the entrance. I think the whole image of nature over growing the man made structure fits well with the idea of death.
