Advent calendar Day 2 - Chocolate advent

This is a picture of one of the advent calendars in our house - Bill's - but it is unopened as he went away on business yesterday and should have been back today. However the snow has disrupted all the flights and he is stuck in Amsterdam until tomorrow.

What is this time that is known as advent?

The word "Advent" comes from the Latin Adventus, which means "coming." It is a time for quiet reflection, prayer and conversion in anticipation of the coming of Jesus.

It is something we forget with all the commercialism around Christmas nowadays - it is not the presents, the food and chocolate that we are waiting for - it is Jesus.

And for me at the moment - Bill - as he is away from home!
