Two valves
Actually: these are the air controlled actuators of the spraywatervalves for the HP bypass of unit EC 4.
The HP bypass is a rather important valve; its purpose is to divert the steam round the HP turbine during start-up.
This is done to prepare the steam (pressure and temperature) before leading it to the turbine.
When the turbine is hot (i.e. after a short stop) the steam has to be about 30° C higher in temperature than the turbinetemperature to make sure it does not condense in the turbine.
That would cause thermal stress.
The spraywatervalves inject a small amount of water into the steam to make sure the steam is not too hot for the system it is dumped into...
