Santa's Little Helpers and their chainsaw

Roused at 6am this morning by the buzz of a chainsaw. Strange, I thought, living in the centre of the town as I do, to hear the buzz of a chainsaw. But lo! When I left for work the reason for the din was the erection of a fine Christmas tree on the Memorial island, just yards from my flat.

And this evening, as the snow began to fall heavily, the scene was set...
