Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

Final Fanfare

November's final sunset was spectacular.

Late this afternoon I was visiting and evaluating the classroom of one of our part-time faculty. When I exited her class at 4:45 and walked to my office to get my things, I had no idea what was beginning to happen in the sky just west of the parking lot. Mr. Fun was on his way to pick me up because my car is in the shop.

So I walked out of my office, rounded the corner and there it was -- November's final sunset.

I reached in my pocket for my new little camera and started clicking. Several students stopped in the darkness to tell me where they thought I'd get a better view. I thanked them and explained that the color would be gone in a moment and that I was going to just enjoy it from the edge of the parking lot.

I stood there oohing, aaahing, and sighing, wanting to freeze the moment. I wanted it to linger, to last. I think it was November's exit gift and reminder of what a grand month it has been . . . and it has! I love November.

Until that sunset moment I was confident I had already captured my photo of the day. It was securely in my camera and I was excited because the photo tells the story of something truly lovely that happened when I went to my campus mailbox this afternoon. At my mailbox I was surprised and delighted. I thought it was perfect for the last day of November, but now I think it is even more perfect for the first day of December, so tomorrow I will capture it with my camera again and share it here at day's end. Until then, I just want to express that what I found in my mailbox today was very special.

Good night from Southern California where December is about to arrive.
