Mediterranean Wanderer

Adult time is adult time...

Something we have noticed in Southern Spain is that there are many public spaces and the best aspect of this, is that they are owned by the adults at night, as well as in the daytime. They install strong lights throughout and there are areas for families as well as for adult sports.

We have yet to see a large group of youths hanging around anywhere...it doesn't seem that the family structure in Spain has room for teenagers who want to withdraw from family life and be with other teenagers. This is a very appealing aspect of life in Spain. I am sure there is a downside to life in Spain, but we haven't found it yet.

All the shops are open and new parents seem to parade their little bundles around the town square and friends meet to chat over coffee...this is all very civilised. We did find a more remote park, that wasn't as well lit, but there were even little old ladies wandering around these in the dark. The worst that is likely to happen to them is that they could take a tumble on the uneven ground.

The folk in the photo are playing what I think is Boules...please correct me if I'm wrong...they play the game with a set of metal bowls that they throw up in an underarm motion towards the other end of the pitch. This, as with all things Spanish, involves everyone talking at once at ever increasing sound levels until there is a winner.

Very entertaining, despite not being able to understand a word of it.
