Crap Macros...!!!

No matter how hard I try - I just can't get to grips with macro shots... maybe my camera is not the best (Sony DC-10) but I firmly believe a good workman never blames his tools...!!!

I can't get up close whilst retaining the sharpness and detail... can anyone give me any advice with this...?

Incidentally, I might have use of a new camera soon - does anyone have any knowledge or experience of a Fujifilm FinePix S9600...? (I am really a novice when it comes to camera technical stuff...)
