Quarry in the Snow

Its about the only time the quarry looks even faintly attractive! Normally its a huge orangey/pink hole in the side of the hill which lies behind the village but give it a fair old coat of snow and it blends more harmoniously with the rest of the landscape.

The hill at the side of the quarry is a favourite spot for the village kids to sledge down. I had a shot of them but that was a bit blurry in the poor light of another snow shower. To reach it by road takes about 15 minutes from our house.

Young master J went up there with his friends sledging last year. About an hour and a half later there was a bang at the door. I opened it to find him with tears running down his face (strange as he rarely cries) As he staggered in the door I could see the problem. He was holding his boot in his hand.

Apparently his boot had come off as he was sledging and was lost. He and his friends eventually found it full of compacted snow. His hands were so cold he could not get the snow out so.....he hopped all the way home!!! No wonder he was in tears! Still a hot shower and some soup and he was right as rain

A cold on today, Schools were closed and I worked from home. Only two members of staff made it in and then for only part of the day. Not sure what tomorrow will bring - I guess a lot of that depends on how the weather holds tonight. :)
