Stone coffin
Third post from Govan Old Parish Church. There seems to be some debate about who was buried in here. Tradition had it that it was St Constantine, although exactly who said Constantine was is a little murky. A more recent theory has it that the sarcophagus is too ornate for a religious figure and wonders why it was ever buried as it was presumably carved to be seen. The conclusion drawn by one researcher is that it was the tomb of Artur MacAeden, son of the king of Dalriada, whose mother was from the British kingdom of Strathclyde and who went on to became a king of the Britons. Perhaps this was even the 'real' King Arthur of legend. Whoever was buried in it, it's a fantastic piece of carving.
