Crossroads
n a matter of seconds it was all taken away-his beliefs, his faith? his world. Just yesterday they spoke of planning another vacation together. Somewhere warm-where they could just get away from it all and relax-just the two of them. He wanted to go south to Mexico-he had heard of a great place in Cabo that a coworker had been recently. It was right on the beach with easy access to downtown for shopping, dinners-whatever they wanted to do. She, though, wanted to go west to Hawaii. They had been once before but she loved Hawaii. It always reminded her of her childhood when she, her mom and sister would tag along to one her fathers work trips. While her father was in meetings all day-they would lay out on the beach, just the 3 of them-laughing, talking. He loved how she lit up when she talked about it. He saw the child in her come out and it could only make him smile and remember why he fell in love with her.
Most likely they would end up in Hawaii. She always got her way-which isnt a bad thing-she was, in most cases, always right. They agreed that they would book their trip the next day when they both got home from work. But thats all over now. She never came home from work.
Some things you just cant plan for. Life throws you unexpected curveballs every now and then - some more serious than others. This one turned out to be just one of those serious ones. In a moment it was over. His world as he knew would never be the same. The morning routine, a kiss goodbye as they both parted ways to work, a shared bottle of red that she bought at the store because the label caught her eye. The weekend market trips to get everything they needed to make a home cooked meal that night. Nothing will ever be the same.
How does he just take care of himself after caring for someone else for so long? It was so easy when he was young-because that?s all he had growing up. But for the last 9 years it wasnt just about him-it was about them. Every decision made, every moment-shared. That part of his life is over now.
The point has come for him to decide his new life. Life doesnt get put on hold for anything. There is no pause button. Many people come across this moment in their life but most never recognize it and how it will shape them. He has the choice of either moving on or staying in this exact moment for the rest of his life. Yesterday he could have never thought that he would be faced with this decision. Its a simple question that needs to be answered-simple enough that if you don?t decide-it will be decided for you.
With his head in his lap and his life in his hands-at this point he will decide whether or not live the rest of his life. And from that-its only the beginning. Everyday he will need to use the past to decide his future. What will he make of his future? It starts at his lowest point in life.
