Cracking up

Tomorrow the cracks will be consigned to wherever old plaster goes. The builder sent by the insurance company is going to strip out the plaster to the brick, add some bars, then plaster it back over. Then a painter sent by the insurance company will make it all good. Hurrah! It will be interesting to see if there are any cracks in the brickwork since none were found at the front of the house. As far as we know the cracks have been caused by subsidence, and they've stopped growing since the hedge was dug out of our garden. The builder who's working with us is based in Kent, but he says most of his jobs for subsidence are in my small area of south-east London. Those Victorians shouldn't really have built on a clay-soiled hill. Ah well. The house has been standing for 130 years and it hasn't completely cracked up yet!

I've been rearranging items from the front room to the dining room/kitchen today. I'm enjoying having my record player in the back of the flat. Today, I've been listening to Ultravox's The Thin Wall, which I picked up in a charity shop yesterday. Happy days!
