East Tytherton

The snow hasn't really reached this part of Wiltshire, south of Swindon, yet, except as a fine powder which has frozen on the ground, but the sub-zero temperatures certainly have. Parts of the country apparently reached -17 C, but even here the air temperature sunk overnight to -5.2, and at 11:46, when this was taken, it was still -3.4.

I reached East Tytherton by driving down Wick Hill, just a little further west than Charlcutt Hill and overlooking the same plain. Just before one reaches the small village of East Tytherton, the road crosses a line of trees at Wick Bridge, marking another section of the unrestored Wilts and Berks Canal. To the north-east it is just a ditch, but here on the south-west side it is filled with water, and though there is no access your fearless guerrilla photographer, overlooked by some sheep, clambered through a small gap in the hedge in order to record the canal's frozen wastes, before rushing home for a hot Sunday lunch .
