I had promised Nia a trip to the petting zoo today. As one of the most impatient and bad tempered drivers you could wish not to meet, what persuaded me to go anywhere on one of the busiest days of the year, I cannot imagine. To start with, the damn SatNav refused to acknowledge the place existed, then, when I went back to print out directions on Mapquest, I found Nia had used all the printing paper in my absence. However, accompanied by a little chorus of "Remember Granny, that?s a very rude word", and "What did you call that man, Granny?", we navigated the traffic and eventually found our way there. I must remember to have a sign made that lights up in the back window, saying 'WHY ARE YOU DRIVING AT 35 MILES AN HOUR IN THE OUTSIDE LANE, HOLDING UP ALL THE TRAFFIC, MORON', before I venture out on a holiday weekend again. The petting zoo was a disappointment; rather sad animals confined in small pens, a quick ride behind a tractor that didn?t slow down enough to be able to see the creatures in the paddocks, a brief encounter with a pot-bellied pig, and a very quick opportunity to feed a young kid. Nia loved it; her favorites were the cats anyway.
