Spamalot

My third consecutive monochrome.

The reason for the title is that today I took advantage of Historic Scotland's free admission weekend in celebration of St Andrew's Day. My castle of choice was Doune Castle which was famously used by the Monty Python team to make Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Because they were refused permission for a number of other locations Doune Castle had to be used as Camelot; Swamp Castle where Sir Lancelot causes chaos at the wedding; and Castle Anthrax where Sir Galahad has an interesting offer!

Every year thousands of Python fans make the pilgrimage to the Castle. And of course a lot of them bring along coconut shells which were used in the film to provide the sound of them miming horse-riding!

Anyway, the picture I selected was actually taken a few miles along the road from the castle. The Statue is of local hero Sir David Stirling a mountaineer and founder of the SAS (Special Air Service). Field Marshal Montgomery, was quoted as saying: "The boy Stirling is quite mad, quite, quite mad. However, in a war there is often a place for mad people."
