Bunch of Roses
As I wasn't allowed to visit this morning I ran errands during which I came across a busy florists shop making Christmas displays. There wasn't much choice if you didn't want a Christmas display, just short stemmed roses or long stemmed roses - I chose the short ones because I knew long ones would present me with a vase problem in the hospital and I'd probably have to cut them short anyway. I like this type of rose but I'd love it if it were scented as well.
Mum is as well as can be expected for a woman of her age after major heart surgery. The anaesthetic is still in her system and she is confused. I hope she is more herself in the morning. The surgeon came to visit this afternoon and showed us a picture of the task he was faced with when he opened her up - her ascending aorta was 9cm across! It could have ruptured at any moment. I could have shown you that but it's quite a shock to see so I decided not to. She used to be a heavy smoker - was this the penalty? The head of Cardiology says it's an age thing, one of his doctors was certain smoking had something to do with it. Whatever the cause, it's gone now.
