Young Nick's Head
These ordinary looking cliffs are actually the very famous spit of land known as Young Nick's Head, that Cook's cabin boy first sighted in 1769 that led to him and Endeavour crew 'discovering' NZ. Having heard about this historical fact all through my school days, I was really keen to see it up close. Well, here it is, and it's actually situated on private land that is actually a lagoon (the tide was out when we arrived). What impressed me was how wild and 'end of the world' it looked.
Spent the rest of the day sitting in the shade at one of Gisborne's lovely wineries - perfect end to the day :)
The rest of the holiday photos will eventually appear on Flickr.
