12th Century Architecture .... rocks
The probably over-photographed but nonetheless impressive cellarium at Fountains Abbey near Ripon, Yorkshire.
Not only is this a wonderful bit of masonry and architecture, it is also an impressive feat of engineering given it was constructed in the 12th century. In its day, this view would have been obstructed by cupboards and the like. What irony that only now, as an empty ruin, can full justice be done to its symmetry and splendid curves.
