I was surprised that it took almost six months before he started bappling things, though I suppose the prerequisite of being able to properly grasp things had to develop first. He's now gone from the odd flail at an inappropriate moment to generally waving anything he holds at least once in each holding-session, striking himself on the head whilst so doing slightly less with each passing day as his cerebellum slowly comes on-line. Whereas some initially apparently purposeless acts eventually developed into recogniseably potentially useful behaviours the bapple appears to be nothing more than the future action for attracting attention by hitting one thing with another thing or trying to make something break to see if it becomes more interesting when broken.
