Art Deco - Inverurie Hospital
Living close by the Great West Road throughout most of my childhood, I grew up with a great deal of fine Art Deco architecture all around me.
I remember at times finding it scary, but Inverurie Hospital always conveys to me the positive hopes of the "modernist" movement to create a better world, expressed in clean lines, sweeping curves and large windows admitting plenty of natural light.
Despite the obvious difficulty keeping the outside clean and free of mould in our damp North East climate, this is a place that always makes me think of sunshine and clear blue skies, even as the light fades to evening on a dreich November afternoon.
