I Witness

Al Capone's Vault

Actually it's his cell at the Eastern State Penitentiary, where he spent eight months in 1929-1930 for carrying a concealed, deadly weapon. He spent his time here in luxury compared to the other inmates.

Our camera club made a day trip to Philadelphia to visit Eastern State Penitentiary today and this is just one of so, so many pictures taken. I will be uploading more to my blipfolio sometime very soon.

We had a fabulous time at this incredible historic site but were so glad that we were on this side of the cell bars - don't let this photo fool you. The penitentiary was once the most famous and expensive prison in the world, but closed in the early 1970's after 142 years of operation. The architecture was amazing and each cell had a vaulted ceiling with skylight. But, sadly most of this is in ruins today. It is a must see for any photographer visited Philadelphia, PA. Please visit if you ever have the chance!
